Our 2026 Price Update - An Open & Honest Explanation

28 Dec 2025

TL;DR – Why Our Prices Are Changing in 2026

We haven’t increased our meal plan prices for over two years, but during that time the cost of ingredients, wages, energy, packaging and deliveries has risen dramatically. Food prices alone have increased by 30–90%, energy bills are around 50% higher, and wage and employer cost increases now mean it costs significantly more to employ our team. We’ve absorbed as much as we can, but to remain sustainable and continue making high-quality, handmade keto meals, we need to update our pricing from 2026. This decision wasn’t taken lightly, and our commitment to quality, transparency and accessibility remains unchanged.

If you’d like a full explanation, please read on.

Why Keto Kitchen Exists
When we started Keto Kitchen, it wasn’t because we saw a gap in the market or a quick business opportunity.

It began with Kate’s return to health through a ketogenic diet. Seeing first-hand the life-changing impact keto could have shaped everything we set out to do. From day one, one of our core aims has always been accessibility – keeping our meals as affordable as possible so that as many people as possible can experience the power of keto for themselves.

That principle hasn’t changed.

What has changed is the reality of running a food business in the UK in 2026.

Why We’re Updating Our Prices
We have not revised our meal plan pricing for over two years. During that time, we have absorbed rising costs wherever we could. Unfortunately, to remain viable, sustainable, and to continue delivering the quality you expect from us, we now need to make a pricing adjustment.

We want to explain why – openly and honestly.

Food Costs Have Risen Dramatically
Over the last two years, food prices in the UK have skyrocketed, something you’ll no doubt have seen yourselves in the supermarkets.

Food inflation has been exceptionally strong, with many staple ingredients increasing by 30–90% over that period.

Lean beef mince is up around 30–40%.
Eggs are up around 35–40%.
Dairy products such as butter, cream and cheese are up 30–50%.
Olive oil has seen some of the sharpest increases, in some cases almost doubling.

We cook with real ingredients – butter, olive oil, quality proteins and fresh produce – because that’s what keto should be. We don’t substitute cheaper seed oils, fillers or ultra-processed alternatives, and those choices come with higher costs that have risen sharply in a very short space of time.

Handmade, Small-Batch Food Comes With Real Labour Costs
We currently employ 9 full-time staff and 6 part-time staff.

Every single meal and cake we produce is made from scratch, prepared by hand, cooked to order, and produced in our kitchen, not a factory, production line or automated facility.

Because of this, labour is one of our biggest costs.

Over the last two years, the UK National Living Wage has increased significantly. It rose from £9.50 to £10.42 in April 2023, from £10.42 to £11.44 in April 2024, and from £11.44 to £12.21 in April 2025.

In real terms, this means each full-time minimum-wage employee now costs around £900 more per year than in 2023, before any other overheads.

In April 2025, employer National Insurance contributions also increased, meaning it now costs us more to employ our team without that increase translating into additional take-home pay for them.

We absolutely support fair pay. Our team are the heart of Keto Kitchen. But these changes have a very real impact on a small, labour-intensive business like ours.

Energy Costs Are Still Exceptionally High
Our kitchen relies heavily on gas and electricity for cooking, refrigeration, freezing and food safety.

Despite headlines suggesting things have “settled”, our energy bills are still around 50% higher than they were two years ago.

Unlike many businesses, we can’t simply reduce usage. Safe food preparation and storage isn’t optional. These higher utility costs directly increase the cost of producing every meal we send out.

Rising Overheads and Delivery Costs
Over the last two years, we’ve also seen increases across almost every other area of the business.

These include rent and business rates, insurance, packaging which is up nearly 15%, courier boxes which increased again this week, refuse collection which is up nearly 20%, and delivery costs.

Both Royal Mail and DPD have implemented multiple price increases during this period, which we have absorbed wherever possible. Unfortunately, we can no longer do so.

From January 2026, DPD alone is increasing parcel delivery costs by £2.23 per parcel, a significant jump for a business shipping perishable food nationwide.

Why We’re Still Trying to Be Fair
We regularly benchmark our pricing against other meal prep companies. Many of these companies are not keto, do not use the same premium ingredients, operate at a much larger scale, and use factory-style production methods.

Despite this, our pricing remains below many competitors.

We also deliberately do not discount first orders or lure customers in with temporary offers tied to subscriptions. We believe in transparent pricing and earning your trust through quality, consistency and service, not gimmicks.

To illustrate this, here is a comparison of standard pricing, excluding first-order discounts, subscription offers or free delivery promotions.

Keto Kitchen: £75.00 for a 5-day plan with 2 meals per day, and £87.50 for a 5-day plan with 3 meals per day.
Simmer: £81.89 for a 5-day plan with 2 meals per day, and £119.34 for a 5-day plan with 3 meals per day.
Frive: £85.90 for a 5-day plan with 2 meals per day, and £119.85 for a 5-day plan with 3 meals per day.

As you can see, despite being the only company offering low-carb, keto-friendly meals cooked in good oils, prepared to order and without subscription, we still believe we offer excellent value for money.

A Decision We Didn’t Take Lightly
We genuinely don’t like increasing our prices. We know many of you choose Keto Kitchen because it makes keto manageable, convenient and sustainable, especially during challenging times.

However, to continue paying our team fairly, using the ingredients we believe in, producing food by hand with care, and operating safely, legally and sustainably, we must update our pricing.

We hope this explanation helps you understand the reasons behind our 2026 price update and reassures you that this decision was not taken lightly.

Thank you, as always, for supporting a small, family-run keto business. We are incredibly grateful to every single one of you.
